LCR Meter API and Impedance Spectroscopy System
Complete software control system transforming basic LCR meter into full impedance spectroscopy platform
Image represents the actual instrumentation developed for this project. Technical details have been abstracted for confidentiality purposes.
Challenge
Commercial LCR meters provide excellent measurement capability but limited data acquisition and analysis features. Researchers need automated impedance spectroscopy, real-time monitoring, and comprehensive data logging that standard instrument interfaces don't provide. Manual frequency sweeps are time-consuming and prone to operator error. Manufacturers typically provide only basic command set documentation without ready-to-use software interfaces.
Solution
Complete LabVIEW-based software control system developed from command set manual, transforming a basic desktop LCR meter into a full impedance spectroscopy platform. Built using hierarchical architecture starting from fundamental USB communication, progressing through basic commands, advanced operations, and culminating in automated spectroscopy capabilities.
Key Technical Features
- • Hierarchical API architecture built in LabVIEW (basic commands → advanced functions → automation)
- • USB interface development from command set manual without manufacturer software
- • Complete parameter read/write control for all LCR unit settings
- • Real-time DUT (Device Under Test) monitoring with time-domain visualisation
- • Comprehensive data logging with configurable parameters
- • Automated impedance spectroscopy across user-defined frequency ranges
- • Material characterisation with frequency-dependent property mapping
- • Modular design enabling integration with other instrumentation systems
