3D Scanning & Reverse Engineering

Metrology-grade 3D scanning with 0.02mm resolution for dimensional capture, quality control, and part replication

A reverse engineering sequence of a ROV for a project. Technical details have been abstracted for confidentiality purposes.

Clear Service Options

3D Scanning

Professional scanning with cleaned point cloud and mesh for quality control, digital archiving of art or specimens, or dimensional verification.

You receive:

  • • Processed point cloud (.ply, .xyz)
  • • Alternative formats available (.las/.laz, .e57, .ascii, .csv)
  • • 3D mesh (.stl, .obj)
  • • Dimensional Analysis Report (when applicable)

Best for: Quality control, archiving art/antiquities/specimens, dimensional verification, or downstream CAD work

Reverse Engineering

Complete service from 3D scanning through parametric CAD model creation, ready for manufacturing or modification.

INCLUDES 3D SCANNING

You receive:

  • • All 3D scanning deliverables
  • • Parametric CAD model (.step, .iges)

CAD reconstruction time varies significantly depending on feature count and complexity, tolerance requirements, and fine details (threads, text, patterns).

Best for: Part replication, CAD modelling, modification, or when you need manufacturing-ready files

Transparent Pricing

Simple Objects

Large gentle curves, flat planes, minimal occlusions

from £300
3D scanning only
+ Reverse Engineering
Quoted separately based on part geometry
Some examples:
  • • Sheet metal panels or brackets
  • • Pocket watch (outside)
  • • Basic mounting plates
  • • Cylindrical vessels or bottles
  • • Large seashell (outside)

Standard Objects

Mixed features, some undercuts, moderate detail

from £600
3D scanning only
+ Reverse Engineering
Quoted separately based on part geometry
Some examples:
  • • Consumer products or prototypes
  • • Motorcycle helmets
  • • Automotive trim components
  • • Prosthetics
  • • Bronze animal sculpture

Complex Objects

High feature density, deep occlusions, fine details

from £1,200
3D scanning only
+ Reverse Engineering
Quoted separately based on part geometry
Some examples:
  • • Detailed mechanical assemblies
  • • Intricate sculptural or ornamental works
  • • Populated PCBs or electronics
  • • Historical mechanical instruments
  • • Turbine components

All projects include: non-contact optical scanning at 0.02mm resolution, point cloud cleaning and processing, mesh generation, coordinate system alignment, and files in standard formats.

Typical scan volume: up to 800 × 800 × 800mm. Larger objects can be accommodated through multi-part scanning upon request.

Non-contact technology: Safe for delicate, soft, valuable, or temperature-sensitive objects including biological specimens, artwork, and historical artifacts.
